• Certificates are all well and good but what about experience? We have plenty of that too. Having taken part in the govenrment’s Green Homes Grant Scheme we did nothing but Insulated Roofs for the best part of a year. Each one of these being inspected and scrutinised to an incredible degree. It raised our game and as a result we probably have more experience in the this type of technically challenging flat roof installation than any other business in the North East.

• So, fully qualified and lots of experience but is this really necessary? Surely any roofer can do this stuff, it can’t be that hard right? WRONG. Sure anyone can chuck some insulation on or in a roof and say it is now insulated but it is a hell of a lot more complicated than that to do this work correctly. When I say correctly I mean with painstaking care and attention to detail so that the roof actually delivers the thermal performance uplift that the client is paying for. This requires the complete removal of the old bitumen felt flat roof back to the roof joists. The perimeter of the roof is then sealed up using PIR insulation and spray foam technology to insulate the roofline and improve airtightness. Then the ‘warm roof’ is installed which is essentially a Vapour Control Layer, 150mm PIR Insulation Boards and OSB3 Plywood sandwich which gives a continuous insulation layer across the whole roof. This superior construction method minimises thermal bridging, delivers excellent U-Values and eliminates any issues with interstitial condensation. The roofline is then finished with new Fascia Guttering and Downpipes before the EPDM Rubber Roofing Membrane gets everything watertight.
